Words of Wisdom

A Baoule* proverb says: “When in the middle of a river, do not insult the crocodile.”

Baoule children are named after the day they were born.

Day born Variants Meaning
Kissie (Monday) Kouassi, Akissi The name of the day is Kissie
Djole (Tuesday) Kouadjo, Adjoua The name of the day is Djole
Mlan (Wednesday) Konan, Amlan The name of the day is Mlan
Ouwe (Thursday) Kouakou, Ahou The name of the day is Ouwe
Yah (Friday) Yao, Aya The name of the day is Yah
Foue (Saturday) Koffi, Affoué The name of the day is Foue

My name is “Ouwe” which may account for my chronic pain condition.  What’s yours?

Perfect! On days you feel amorous it’s a French accent: fou-ay (accent on the ay, low sexy voice, eyebrows raised, sly smile)
If you drink too much vino it’s Italian Fooooo! (if you’re drunk you can only get the first syllable out)
When you eat rice it’s a Chinese accent: Fu fu ay

All the other days it’s English Phooey.

Here’s to more wine, rice and sex.
