Five-Parts Pride
Too proud to admit
loneliness; just me, my soul
neither here nor there.
* * *
Too proud to complain.
How to relinquish the pain
I am and am not
* * *
Humility bared
ere I go before the fall
haughty spirit stilled
* * *
What was, now is
pile of dead bones
and my soul
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall”. Proverbs 16:18
Deepest depths
laughter and pain
all I am
“Too proud to complain”
Not my grandma! I remember sitting in her kitchen as a child, when when Whitey, one of her long-time friends came to the door. “How ya doin’, Ann?” he boomed. Immediately my grandmother launched into a long litany of woes, mostly involving aches and pains. Nope, she wasn’t too proud to complain!

That was my first thought when I saw the prompt.
My pride in Haiku is still waiting to come out…
you said a lot that hit home…
thanks,
Pride certainly has ruled my life…
Thanks for the eye opener.

I loved this set – it is a meditation on humility and independence too. I was very moved by the verse ‘what was, is a pile of dead bones, and my soul.’

I love all of these. Pride can show courage as well. It is not always foolish.

Wonderfully tender and open, I just posted mine and came back here. There’s no blood in mine, just a couple of tears. We really are related. Talk about PRIDE, Love, as always, Peachy Keen Jr.

I think there is more admirable humility in these than pride!
